Calligraphy

When I first began teaching myself calligraphy, I practiced the foundational hand alphabet a letter at a time, day after day, trying to get my writing uniform. Although I longed to master the art of beautiful writing, I was constantly frustrated. To painstakingly write out a poem, only to make a mistake on the last line and have to begin again, was infuriating. After about six months I decided it was too laborious, so I put my pens away and picked up my paintbrushes instead.

A couple of years later, I unearthed my pens as I sorted out my studio. Curious to see if I would remember the alphabet I had learned, I wrote it out on a piece of parchment. Very encouraged by the result, I began practicing again with fresh enthusiasm. Yes, calligraphy can be frustrating, and takes a lot of patience and practice, but the end result is incredibly rewarding.

A Friend is One #1
I absolutely love this saying. I have seen it sold at Athena as an 'Arabian Proverb', while others put it down as 'Author unknown'. Whoever the author was, he or she captured friendship beautifully.

This painting is acrylic on board.

The original measures 16"x20"

Coming Together

Coming together is the easy part. Keeping together can be difficult sometimes. Working together, a husband and wife with each other’s interests at heart and the same vision – that is success! This is what this verse means to me.
