With the many commitments I have had in the last
few years, I have not had the opportunity to paint
very much. I have missed it, and intend to put
brush to paper or canvas again as soon as I can.
From still life, to wild animals, I find life
inspiring, and enjoy capturing it with pastels,
watercolours, acrylic, oil colours, clay, paper
mache`, wood - or whatever seems best at the time!
The following paintings are examples of my work.
The 'Impala drinking at the waterhole' is the
most recent, and was done last year.
The Cat's in the Bag & Comfortable
Cat |
When I lived in England
I was commissioned to paint the portraits
of 3 lovely cats. In return for being able
to use the wonderfully clear and expressive
photographs she had sent me, I gave one
of the paintings to the lady who commissioned
me. These are two of the subsequent pastels
I did from the photographs. |

White Persion and Red Butterfly |

This poster paint on board
was a sample I did for friends. They subsequently
chose the pastel version. The sample was just
of the cat, and I added the flower and butterfly
because it looked as thought the cat was looking
at something behind it. |
Racoon and Driftwood |
| I’ve always found
raccoons endearing. When I painted this beautiful
piece of driftwood, I couldn’t resist
adding the raccoon! |

Impala Dringing at the Waterhole |

This pastel on board,
depicts the parched vegetation that covers
Africa in the dry season, and the fact that
the waterhole makes the difference between
life and death.

Hoopoe Among Acacia Thorns |
This bird, nicknamed the
‘go away’ bird because its cry
sounds as though it is "screeching ‘go
away, go away,’" was one of my
fathers favourite birds. I always marveled
how they could land between the needle-sharp
Acacia thorns without impaling themselves.
I painted this bird in acrylic paints, on
wood, as a gift to Dad, when he had a heart
attack in 1987.

African dawns, African sunsets and African
animals never fail to inspire me. |

in the highest form of dressage at the Spanish
Riding School of Vienna. |

Port Erin Bay, in
the Isle of Man, was one of Chris’s
mother's favourite places. I painted this
watercolour for her. |
Reflections in Glass |
| Whether in water, or in
glass, reflections and the patterns they produce,
inspire me. |

The title says it
all! This was painted in acrylic paints, on
a rock. |
A Family of Labradors |
| These three Labrador Retrievers
were Chris’ parents’ much loved
companions. Penny, on the left, was the mother
of Katy, on the right. Katy, in turn, was
the mother of Sam, in the center. This was
the first oil painting I ever attempted. |

Flowers and Bible
verses - an uplifting combination! The Irises
are in watercolor, and the calligraphy in
blue ink. I tore the paper and placed it on
top of another textured watercolor sheet,
to give a layered effect. |
